Lyle Kingsbury, age 17, London.
The following information was supplied by Lyle's daughter, Marie L. Kingsbury LaFlower:

Dad was a baker third class. Joined the Navy December 23, 1943. He is really a year younger than his service record reports, because he lied about his age. Boot training was received at Sampson,NY and from there sent to Norfork,Va. for amphibious landing training. Next sent to New Orleans, La, and from there went to sea on an LST and participated in the invasion of France. While on leave 11 months after that tour of duty went on leave and married my Mother, Loretta Marie LaCroix on Jan. 27,1944. Said he didn't like being a baker. Wanted to be part of the amphibious landing. And remembers being the only Yankee on ship. Captain Olson used to use my Dad as a boxer from one ship to the other for entertainment and never disappointing Caption Olson because of his youthful spunk. This info I've taken off a newspaper article that dates back to that time.
